Application
Sirolimus (Rapamycin) is a new and potent immunosuppresant with low toxicity and dosage. It is used in the prevention of graft rejection in organ and bone marrow transplantations and the treatment of autoimmune diseases. There is synergism between Sirolimus and Cyclosporin A. What's more, the activity of Sirolimus is 10-fold more potent than Cyclosporin A and it can be associated with Cyclosporin A in the clinical treatment. Compared with Cyclosporin A and FK506, Sirolimus is a potent immunosuppresant with the lowest toxicity to kidneys and without any toxicity to nerves. There are 1295 transplantations of kidneys made in the Unite State with high effect and low side effect when patients received Sirolimus.
